Chef Mervyn Whitfield and Sophia's Mediterranean Restaurant




Chef Mervyn Whitfield served and did his apprenticeship at the five-star prestige Grosvenor House Hotel, He graduated after five years’ as a Chef Touno. He then joined the famous Entertainment Group NEMS run by Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles , Chef Mervyn was assigned to other famous groups like Gerry and the Peacemakes, Billy J. Kramer, Cilla Black, Cliff Bennet and The Beatles. After 8 years, Chef Mervyn opened his own restaurant, : the Casserole”, in Chelsea, London and opened his second : Le Bistro” in Knightbridge. Chef Mervyn has cooked for many famous people among them were Princess Diana, Fergie Duchess of York, Phil Collin, Pavarotti, Oliver Reed, and many others. Chef Mervyn has also been a chef at many European top Clubs and restaurants like Anabel’s, toured Argent, Jackie O and El Bontin to name a few. Today, he is married and has two kids. He settled in Manila since 1991. Running 5 restaurants and one of them is Sophia’s. It brought him his brand of cuisine. Chef Mervyn is a regular Columnist for Cook magazine, and his always asked to be judge for many local competitions like Chefs on Parade and other food expositions. Chef Mervyn concept: Family-Style cooking using only the best and freshest ingredient for his Mediterranean recipes. His Motto’s is “ good food need not be expensive”.
